Family Day Picnic on Angel Island - May 2010
YDC members and their children rode the ferry from Pier 41, San Francisco and enjoyed a picnic lunch at Camp Reynolds preceded by a narrated tram tour of historical Angel Island in the San Francisco Bay, May 15, 2010.
Consular corps colleagues from twenty countries socialized and participated in many games on the grassy knolls of the island:
croquet, volleyball, badminton, soccer and baseball. The children enjoyed face painting, yo-yos, and blowing bubbles as well as making new friends. Hors d'oeuvres and a typical American BBQ lunch was served on festive red and white checked table cloths. Party favors included YDC water bottles which some children thought were perfect for catching crawly critters. There were welcome cups of warm hot chocolate upon arrival. A chilly morning developed into a warm sunny afternoon with glorious views of the Golden Gate Bridge.
New Honorary Chair, The Hon. Mohamed Elkhatib welcomed guests.
Children drew names for the door prizes which included two San Francisco Giants gift certificates and a picnic backpack complete with cutlery, wine glasses and a blanket. Grand prize winner was Rania Elshazly of Egypt.
